"In the past 5 years, the microchapbook has emerged as a popular form in the digital age," says instructor Alan Chazaro. "It is smaller than the chapbook, yet longer than a journal submission, allowing for the poet to zoom into miniature thematic threads and develop a voice in a matter of 10-13 pages."

In this course, we will read and discuss what makes the microchapbook such a unique form to house your ideas, identity, and brand of poetry. In discussions, we will investigate a range of published PDF microchapbooks by debut poets such as Matt Mitchell, Carla Sofia Ferreira, Gustavo Barahona-López, and Gabrielle Grace Hogan. Through workshop, we will generate material to create our own micros that will form the foundation of your small collection, which we will later submit to a list of designated places that offer publication and promotion for emerging writers via micro competitions.

"Don't let the name fool you," says Alan. "Though small in size, the micro is a big niche market worth exploring in the contemporary poetry landscape."
