“Wait, I think I might be working on a book here!” Sound familiar? Do you think you’re ready to hone in on a writing project such as a novel, chapbook, collection of poems, or dramatic work? Launch Your Writing Project will help you develop a long-form project in an environment that offers support, accountability and feedback appropriate to this mid-stage of the writing process.

This 6-session class meets every other week to give you time to make good headway between classes. In those meetings, you’ll share with the group your project goals, questions and concerns about your writing process, and some of the writing itself. Your instructor Kerry Muir will offer development advice around planning your project, light feedback on your writing, and craft-focused discussion tailored to group members’ genre interests.

The class will also involve:

  • Establishing a game plan for accomplishing project objectives
  • Prompt-driven, weekly exercises to generate new writing
  • Weekly partner responses for support and accountability
  • Sharing your writing and receiving light feedback from instructor and group

“You will not receive editorial feedback in this class,” says Kerry. “Rather, we will build a supportive environment, so that you may come to class with issues you are facing with your writing to find encouragement and solutions. Through incremental progress, by the end of class, you will have an organized and more fully realized project and new tools to move onto the next stage of development.”

*Students will fill out an info sheet prior to the start of class which describes their projects and allows for customization of student experience.

Reviews
  • Kerry guided us - almost effortlessly - in how to support each other with feedback & suggestions that helped and not hurt. Kerry's thoughtful suggestions for everyone in the class were always clear and insightful, very beneficial to each of us.

  • Kerry's creative writing class is so much more than a writing class--although you do write A LOT and feel the pride of accomplishment at the stack of pages you never thought you'd write. Kerry teaches you to pay attention to the world around you and brings you closer to your own experiences with her curated lessons, fantastic reading materials, and personal feedback. Her gentle, invested care has helped me grow as a writer and as a human.
