Creative writing is a great way to connect with yourself, your imagination and talents. And participating in an online class provides a chance to learn new skills, an exciting creative outlet, and a supportive community.

In this class, instructor Elaine Beale leads a series of sessions designed to teach participants about the key elements of creative writing craft. It touches on fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and memoir so you get a chance to explore all these genres in one class.

"We’ll do lots of in-class writing exercises and provide time for you to share your work," says Elaine. "We’ll also talk about stories, essays, and poems by published writers, and what makes them come alive. There will also be assignments to help you find your own voice, learn how to develop vivid description and images, and create compelling drama on the page.”

“Most people who take this class have limited creative writing experience,” says Elaine. “But by the time class is over, everyone leaves with a lot more confidence in their own writing talents, work they are proud of, and a commitment to continuing to write.”

Hosted on Zoom, this class provides a surprising level of interaction and intimacy for an online class. You’ll get lots of opportunities for real-time interaction, input from the instructor, a chance to get to know and work with your fellow students, as well as assignments to keep you writing between classes.

Reviews
  • Elaine is an excellent, dynamic teacher and very organized with materials and communications. Her critiquing of our writing was extremely valuable. In addition to her considerable experience, she has a gift for it. . . . I wish she could always be my reader, and would definitely take another course taught by her and recommend her classes to others.

  • I am a big fan of Elaine's classes. She immediately puts the novice at ease and her enthusiastic love of the craft is contagious.
