"Writing with a partner isn't just about the process, about a shared experience or even simply about the finished piece. To work collaboratively engenders a more playful approach to your personal practice once you return to it. Collaboration encourages greater risk-taking and deeper trust in the power of language to come through for us."

- from THEY SAID, A Multi-Genre Anthology of Contemporary Collaborative Writing, edited by Simone Muench & Dean Rader, assistant editors Sally Ashton & Jackie White

“In this dynamic and lively three-week class, we will explore ways of writing in community,” says instructor Maw Shein Win. “As a long-time collaborator with visual artists, musicians, dancers, and other writers, I will offer a multitude of prompts—music, film/video, visual art, and photography that can inspire and generate new work.”

Through in-class and out-of-class readings and resources, we will learn how other poets and writers have collaborated and experimented. We will practice a variety of techniques, including paired and group collaborations, experiments, games, and improvisations that will enliven and invigorate our writing. Together, we will share our collaborative work in a supportive environment.

Maw says, "This class is perfect for intermediate and advanced writers who wish to expand their poetry and prose using inventive and collaborative methods."
