You’ve written and revised your stories, essays, or poems, and you’re feeling ready-- or at least as ready as you’ll ever be-- to share them with readers. So, where to begin, and what to expect? Instructor Heather June Gibbons says, “The landscape of literary journals is vast, and each journal has its own editorial vision, mix of genres, and submission guidelines. It can seem overwhelming and intimidating to try and figure out how to even approach the process, let alone engage in it.”

This half-day online class will introduce you to the nuts and bolts of literary journal publication, including how to decide where to send your work, prepare your manuscripts for submission, write a cover letter, and use online submission management tools like Submittable, as well as insight into how submissions are considered and editorial decisions are made.

Heather says, “In addition to publishing my own work widely in literary journals, I have behind-the-scenes experience running a journal, and I’m excited to offer you both perspectives. I’ll also share helpful strategies for staying organized and motivated in the process so you can develop the kind of sustainable, ongoing submission practice that will lead, over time, to publication success.”
