Creative Writing Boot Camp

“This remote class is designed for writers of all levels whose schedule or budget may not allow for a longer commitment,” says instructor Kathy Garlick. “In a quick but powerful workshop, we’ll focus on the most essential elements of creative writing such as voice, character, dialogue and description.”

Writing prompts and reflections on the in-class writing will play an important role in this class. Key concepts will be illustrated through short poems, essays and stories from authors including Raymond Carver, Jhumpa Lahiri and Claudia Rankine. Though the focus of the class will be on creating new work, there will be opportunities for sharing and discussion. Students are encouraged to bring a real-life event or story idea or poem they’ve been thinking about recently.

Kathy says, “By the end of the class, you’ll leave with new writing you’ve produced in class, prompts to inspire continued writing, and resources to guide you along the way.”
