In The Writing Salon’s Studio classes, writers engage in a close-knit community dedicated to craft development, creative exploration, and the revision of in-progress pieces.
“Poets do most of their heavy lifting in relative solitude,” says instructor Brian Tierney, “but finding a community in which the rigor of our writing lives can flourish and be challenged is crucial to enlarging our skillset and confidence. Sometimes we just need fresh eyes to re-see, reimagine, and revise.”
Poetry Studio offers a space for poets to refine existing work, read and discuss contemporary and classic poems, and generate new writing. Workshops form the heart of the experience, where participants’ poems are read and discussed with depth and care. Each poet will share poems for thoughtful feedback from the instructor and classmates. Everyone will receive written comments on their submissions and real-time feedback during class.
“Over the course of 6 weeks, you’ll learn how to talk about craft in precise, practical terms,” says Brian. “You’ll also come away with a small portfolio of new and revised work, a clear plan for what to pursue next, and a community you can return to season after season.”
