“All memoirs begin with memory, sometimes just a barely perceptible image from childhood that wants to come to life,” says instructor David Jacobson.
In this 3-hour class, through writing prompts carefully chosen by David, you’ll pinpoint the memories that drive you to the page, ones that thrill, haunt, and comfort you. You’ll write, reflect, and write some more. Alongside the writing, you’ll learn practical methods to continue to pinpoint key moments from your life, depict them with emotional clarity, and envision them as part of a cohesive narrative. Excerpts from inspiring articles, author interviews, and memoirs—including David’s—will illustrate how writers work with the clay of memory to shape memorable stories.
You’ll leave this class with plenty of new writing and writing strategies, as well as a clearly marked pathway to pursue your own memoir.
