Don’t have the time to commit to a multi-week class but want to develop essential creative writing skills in one inspiring and productive session? This is the class for you. This one-day intensive boot camp will help you sharpen your writing skills in a fun and encouraging environment.
Whether you want to write a memoir, a short story, a poem, or a screenplay, there are core techniques in the craft of writing that are relevant to all genres and forms. In this daylong workshop, you will learn and practice essential techniques in the craft of creative writing, such as character, voice, description, and narrative, that will help to bring your stories, reflections, and worlds to life. Interactive exercises, lively discussion, and in-class writing prompts will give you practical tips and tools to hone and enliven your writing.

Heather June Gibbons is the author of the poetry collection Her Mouth as Souvenir, winner of the 2017 Agha Shahid Ali Poetry Prize. She is also the author of two chapbooks, Sore Songs and Flyover, and her poems appear widely in literary journals. She received an MFA in Poetry from the University of Iowa Writers’ Workshop, where she was a Callen Graduate Scholar, and she has been the recipient of fellowships and awards from the Academy of American Poets, the Vermont Studio Center, and the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown. An award-winning instructor who has taught at a number of universities, she teaches creative writing at San Francisco State University, and in the community.
