Are you a fiction writer hungry for feedback on your short stories or novel? Do you want to participate in an online community of writers committed to helping each other develop their fiction writing skills? If your answer is yes, then the Fiction Writers Workshop is for you.

Instructor Elaine Beale says, “We designed this class as a supportive space for writers who want to build their fiction writing skills. And there’s no better way to do that than by getting thoughtful feedback from other writers on your work.”

Over the course of the eight-week class, you will have three opportunities to submit your work and get detailed feedback from other participants. The class will be divided into small groups, so you’ll respond to just one or two classmates each week. As the instructor, Elaine will respond to every submission, providing thoughtful edits, suggestions for changes, and highlighting a story’s particular strengths.

“We’ll also devote some time to discussing craft issues like point of view, story structure, and setting,” says Elaine. “And I’ll provide an optional weekly homework assignment that will help build skills in these areas.

“But our main focus will be to provide detailed and thoughtful input on participants’ short stories or novel excerpts. Our goal is to help writers strengthen their skills, create more compelling stories, and develop their own distinctive writer’s voice.”

The course will use the online platform Wet Ink, which allows for clear, targeted commentary on submissions. It also allows for student discussion and the posting of “lessons” on aspects of fiction writing craft.
