Note: You can also take this class in combination with Shirin’s Writing Children’s Picture Books #1: Writing Children’s Picture Books “Combo” class.

For those who have a completed picture book manuscript ready for workshopping, or for those who have completed  Writing Children’s Picture Books: More than Just Child’s Play #1, this course focuses on hands-on writing and editing.

“We’ll roll up our sleeves and really get to work, using the class as an  instant writers’ group with the added benefit of some formal structure,” says Shirin Yim Bridges. “Every participant will get the opportunity to  share their work several times, and to benefit from the support,  encouragement, and considered critiques of their classmates—and from me, a working children’s editor and publisher.”

Weekly writing exercises will help hone writing and editing skills, as well as lend focus and perspective to each week’s group discussion.

Shirin Yim Bridges’ first picture book, Ruby’s Wish, is one of Publishers Weekly’s Best Children’s Books and won the Ezra Jack Keats Award. Her second book, The Umbrella Queen, made TIME/CNN’s Top 10 Lists. Mary Wrightly So Politely will be published by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt in 2013. Shirin is also the Head Goose at Goosebottom Books, award-winning publishers of The Thinking Girl’s Treasury of Dastardly Dames. She has given workshops and seminars on writing and publishing for Stanford University, the College of San Mateo, San Francisco State University, Illinois State University, the Mendocino Coast Writers’ Conference, and the Book Passage Children’s Writers and Illustrators Conference.
