Testimonials for Shirin

To self-publish or not to self-publish? Over the past few years as self-publishing has exploded, this has often been the question. But now, authors are starting to view self-publishing not as an alternative to traditional publishing but as a step towards it—and with good reason.

“Digital first is such an exciting part of the market,” says Shirin Yim Bridges. “In recent years there have been ridiculous success stories about authors who’ve self-published digitally first and then been swept up by one of the Big Six for hundreds of thousands of dollars. Fifty Shades of Grey was only one example.”

But “digital first” is not only paying off for authors, it’s paying off for publishers. Established publishers like Random House, Harlequin and HarperCollins are rushing to set up their own digital first imprints.

Find out more about this new segment in publishing in our fun and up-beat one-day workshop. Enjoy a medley of good news stories—a rarity in publishing. Learn why “digital” doesn’t always mean e-book. And importantly, assess if this strategy might be right for you and how to avoid its major downfalls.

Shirin Yim Bridges has made the successful transition from author (Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, HarperCollins, Chronicle Books) to award-winning editor and publisher (Goosebottom Books). She has given workshops and seminars on publishing and writing for the Mendocino Coast Writers’ Conference, the Book Passage Children’s Writers and Illustrators Conference, the Asian Festival of Children’s Content, Stanford University, San Francisco State University, Illinois State University, Dominican University, and the College of San Mateo.
