Class Locations

NOTE: The following addresses are for classes ONLY. They are not administrative offices. Our administrative mailing address is: 601 Anderson St., SF, CA 94110.

SAN FRANCISCO CLASSROOM ADDRESS: The Mill Building, 720 York St. #207 (between 19th and 20th streets). Google Map here

The Mill Building

How to get here:

SF Public Transportation: The closest BART stations are the 16th and 24th Street Mission stations. There are also numerous MUNI bus line options (ie. on Bryant Street or Potrero Ave. or 16th Street) that will take you within a block or two or three of 720 York St. Please call MUNI to get exact directions from your starting location.

From the East Bay: Cross the Bay Bridge and take I-80 to the first exit, which is the 9th Street/Civic Center ramp. This leads you straight onto Harrison Street. Take Harrison to 10th Street, make a left on 10th, stay on 10th until it turns into Potrero Ave. Keep going on Potrero to 19th Street, turn right on 19th and  go 1.5 blocks to York Street. Left on York, and you are there! The Mill Building takes up the entire righthand side of the block between 19th and 20th streets.

Finding our classroom:

Go to the main door of the building, where your teacher will be waiting just inside the glass door, to let you into the building. The teacher will be there for 15 minutes prior to class start time. If you arrive any earlier than this, you will need to wait outside the building until the teacher arrives. Do not attempt to enter the building when someone else enters or exits; it is against building rules and regulations.

If you are late for class, look for “Writing Salons” on the building directory. Punch in the intercom code for “Writing Salon,” and the teacher will buzz you in. Take the stairs to the second floor (the other option is the freight elevator, if you cannot use the stairs).

When you reach the top of the stairs, do a U-TURN (don’t go right), then go through the open door that will lead you down a LONG hallway to Unit #207. A Writing Salon postcard is posted on our door. NOTE: The Mill Building is comprised of 48 live/work loft condominiums, so please be quiet and respectful of the building residents who live in the building 24/7 – i.e. talk softly, turn off cell phone ringers, etc.

BERKELEY CLASSROOM ADDRESS: 2121 Bonar St., Studio D, 2nd floor (this is at the Strawberry Creek Design Center).  Google Map here

Strawberry Creek Design Center

Strawberry Creek Design Center

Berkeley Public Transportation: The Strawberry Creek Design Center is close to the North Berkeley BART (cross streets, Sacramento and Virginia). Walk up Sacramento Street to Addison (one block past University Ave.), make a right on Addison, and go a few blocks to the corner of Addison and Bonar (it’s a pleasant 10-minute walk from BART). Make a left on Bonar and walk to the Bonar Street entrance (2121 Bonar). For bus line information, please call MUNI to get exact directions from your starting location.

From San Francisco: Cross the Bay Bridge and take I-80 to the University Ave. exit. Take University Ave. to Bonar Street (two blocks past San Pablo Avenue). Turn right on Bonar, go one block to the intersection of Bonar and Addison. You will see the Strawberry Creek Design Center looming large, on the corner. Our door is another half block up the Street on Bonar. You can park anywhere around here, on either Addison or Bonar.

Finding our classroom:

Enter at the door that says 2121 Bonar (there’s a sign next to the door), go to the top of the stairs, turn right, and go down the outdoor walkway to the last door, which is labeled Studio D. That’s us. There is no elevator or ramp to the second floor; sorry. PLEASE NOTE: The Strawberry Creek Design Center has other entrances (i.e. 1250 Addison St., on the side of the building facing the large lawn), but we strongly recommend that you do NOT use those entrances, because you will find yourself in a maze of offices/hallways, and will have a much harder time making your way to our classroom in Studio D.
